Swine Feeding Guidelines

At Kaniksu Feeds, we pride ourselves in providing quality feed for our community and nothing makes us happier than seeing local kids utilize our feed for their 4-H and FFA projects. To be eligible for the Kaniksu Feeds Loyalty Award, participants must follow the feeding guidelines for their species.

Pre-weaning, piglets should be introduced to creep feed, medicated or unmedicated.

Post weaning, at 25-50lbs, they should be on the Kaniksu Feeds Swine Starter

From 80lbs to finish, we recommend feeding Show Hog or Swine Grower/Finisher. If your pig is on the smaller side, you can continue to feed the Swine Starter, a 50/50 Swine Starter/Show Hog or a 50/50 Swine Starter/Swine Grower/Finisher.

The size of the pig, breed and when they need to be finished will determine how long each individual pig is on a certain feed (i.e. if they need to grow faster, they need to be on Swine Starter or Starter/Grower ration. If they are already larger in size, then you can stick with the Swine Grower/Finisher to keep them from getting overweight). There is nothing wrong with feeding Swine Starter through finishing if pigs need to be pushed to make weight.

Starting them on Kaniksu Feeds Swine Starter will boost their ability to gain more in the future.

From spring weigh-in to fair weigh-in, your market pig must be fed 100% Kaniksu Feeds to be eligible for the Loyalty Award. All participants must have proof that they have bought all their feed for their project from an Kaniksu Feeds Dealer.

Management can play a crucial role in the pig’s ability to gain weight. Consult your leader for best management practices.

Be sure to always keep fresh, clean water in pen.

Give your pig adequate space and shelter from the weather.
